Meet Mr. Bojangles

I run a trucking company in Sharonville, OH and behind our lot is a junk yard.  Mainly broken down cars and trailers.

We had a short haired black female cat that started coming around almost 4 years ago.  She was a very vocal girl.  And to be a

"junkyard cat" she had such a beautiful shiny coat!  We began feeding her and it took months for her to let us get close to her enough to

pet her.  Once we gained her trust  we learned she was a very loving cat.  It wasn't long when she became pregnant with her first litter.

We watched her to try to find where she would have them.  At this time we nicknamed her Momma.  Early one morning we found

them in our parts trailer curled up in an old tire.  It was just two little kittens.  They were only about two months old when suddenly

they disappeared.  I was heartbroken thinking they had been run over on Cincinnati Dayton Rd.  I never did find them.  I wasn't much longer

after that she had another litter.  This time there were 6 beautiful kittens.  She had them over the fence in the junkyard.  The first day

we seen them out roaming around, I ran to the store and purchased a cat carrier.  When I came back, the mechanic and I spent the

entire day trying to catch these kittens.  I didn't want this litter to have the same questionable fate as the first.  It took all day but we

eventually captured all of them and placed them in the cage.  Once momma heard their cries, she wanted inside with them to

nurse them.  I brought them all home to my house until they were big enough to find homes.  They basically lived in my kids' playroom

for a few weeks.  They were born wild and was not use to the human touch.  So when I brought them home, we all spent as much time with

them as we could so they would understand "us humans"!  The neighbors would come over and we would all spend hours in the playroom

playing with the kittens.  I already had a female cat at home who didn't enjoy their company, so they stayed in the playroom only.

But they loved it.  Those kittens climbed all over the doll house, learned to climb up the rocking horse, etc.  They loved it.

I took pictures of them all to find homes for them.  I had two long hair females that needed to be by each other.  Must have found comfort

in each other.  So my mechanic took them both home.  I found homes for the other siblings as well.  I took "Momma" to the Warren

County Humane Society to be spaded and found a loving home for her as well.

I kept Mr. Bojangles because I fell in love with his "spunky-ness".  When he played, he played hard.  And if that meant chasing the

ball straight into the wall, then that is what he did!  Or chasing it down the steps, that is what he did.  He his his head so many times I honestly

worried  he would have brain damage!  Hence the nickname "crackhead" that my 9 year old daughter told you about.  He does have

a funny quirk about him since he has grown up.  He will walk up to a wall, walk up the wall with his front paws and roll

his head around in a circle while he meows.  He does this numerous times a day and normally by the window on the back door.

I have been a cat lover all my life and never have I seen a cat do this.  It's quite comical.

Thank you for bringing the opportunity for children to learn about animals to our schools, libraries and parties.  My daughter said it was

better than a trip to the zoo!  What you do is very special, as I seen it in my daughter when she came home today from

Mason Heights Elementary.  It truly made an impact on her, and made learning fun!  Thanks again, Brian, and keep up the great work!
